My NaBloPoMo stint is over!
I shall write more tomorrow.
It’s one thing for your friends to forget your birthday … but it’s another when your own mother forgets!
I’m a hazard to myself.
An extract from an email I wrote to a friend yesterday -
I’m feeling pretty damned lousy myself right now. I’m just so confused about my life right now and I just .. hurt? I don’t know.
I’ve finally got a job that I want, I’m going back to NYC and marrying Nick, and I still don’t feel happy.
I never thought I’d live this long – so I never really bothered to make plans. I don’t think I ever really thought I’d move to Sydney, because I don’t think I thought I’d be alive that long. Now I’m like ?? What do I want? I don’t think I want to stay in Darwin, but I don’t know where I want to be .. I guess I’m realising that even in Sydney, I’ll still be me … and that’s half my problem. “Wherever you go, there you’ll be ..” or whatever it is *sigh*
I think I’m just getting itchy feet – I went away pretty much every two months for the past two years, and it’s getting to that point again now (this weekend will be two months), and I just want to get away .. but we’re not going anywhere til May

I’ve spent my whole life running from who I am .. and now it’s catching up with me…
Something that is doing the rounds on Facebook – 25 Random Facts About Me!
1. I care too much about what other people think.
2. I spent my childhood wanting to be a Pediatrician, or a Vet when I “grew up”. Now I just want to be “famous”!
3. I’ve been at Uni on and off since 2003, and have changed my degree four times – Psychology to Sports Physiology to Education to Psychology, and finally to a dual degree in Psychology and Communications (Marketing/PR). I have about a year to go on the Communications side of things (Psych is all finished), and an accumulated HECS debt that would have been great as a house deposit. Or another car.
4. I have a big heart, and it often gets the better of me. I’m taken for a ride far too often, and I often invest far more time and emotional energy into people I thought were friends than they deserve.
5. I let myself be hurt time and time again, usually by the same people, because I like to believe that people can change – and that one day they’ll be there for me when I need them. They never are. But I keep hoping.
6. I am madly obsessed with Gilmore Girls. I can recite any episode word for word, and have watched the whole series that many times that I’ve lost count. Nick has been subjected to the “torture” that many times that he also now knows each and every episode word for word. I’m reduced to a blubbering mess at the same scenes every time; I consider Lorelai and Rory my “best friends” (no judgment, please – they’re ALWAYS there for me!); and can always find some link between a Gilmore Girls episode and my life. My mother is Emily Gilmore.
7. I am the Queen of Procrastination. It’s an art form, which I have perfected.
8. I was born in Canberra, and spent the first four years of my life growing up on a farm in Bungendore, until my Dad shifted my then pregnant mother and I up to the Northern Territory. I wasn’t allowed to go to the local community school full time because I was white, and was spat on and thrown rocks at on a daily basis when I attended in the afternoons (after School of the Air), by the local community kids, until I was eight.
9. When I was eight, I went to live with my Grandmother in Cobar for 6 months. I told my parents it was because I wanted to go to a “real” school, and didn’t want my Mum teaching me anymore – really I just couldn’t handle the torture of being one of the very few white children (and the daughter of a copper) any longer. I didn’t last the full 6 months with my Gran either – I missed my family too much, and I was terrified of my Gran when she was angry.
10. Up until the age of about 10, my Mum was convinced I was going to be a Nun when I grew up. I was obsessed with going to Church, and loved reading the Bible. My family aren’t religious at all.
11. I started following the Sydney Roosters as a kid so that I had something to talk about with my Dad.
12. Try as I might, I cannot read music.
13. I didn’t get to say goodbye to my Papa when he was dying of cancer, and I kick myself every day. I told my family that I didn’t want to see him so frail, when he had always been so full of life – really I was just terrified.
14. My Papa was my hero. I used to refer to him as The King, when he’d get dressed up for his chamber meetings. I miss him every day.
15. I have four Godparents – two of which I haven’t seen or spoken to since I was about 10.
16. I’m not scared of death, but I’m terrified of old age.
17. When I was 17, I was so hell bent on getting out of Darwin, now 7 years later, I’m afraid to leave.
18. 2008 is a year that I don’t care to ever repeat. Or think of again.
19. My first kiss was at 15 with a party for the Soccer Boys that were in Darwin for a Tournament. I never got his name, and I think I prefer it that way. I later found out I was the 7th of his conquests that night – he “beat” all the other boys for most hookups that night *eye roll*
20. When my Lexi died last year after her second encounter with a cane toad, I cried for a week. I also wore her collar on my wrist for a week, before my Mum told me I needed to take it off. I didn’t go to work that week either.
21. I have an obsessive, anal-retentive personality, and I like things to be ‘just so’. Those who do not follow the Law of Straightness will not be saved.
22. I have never been a bridesmaid.
23. I love making lists. I include “make new list” on my lists… List making got me through highschool.
24. I am a stationery fiend. I spent more on stationery last year than I did on clothes. I should have shares in kikki.k.
25. New York City has my heart. Nick and I hope to live there one day. The thought is both terrifying and exhilarating at the same time.
For the first time in about ten years, I have a tan. With my skin, generally I just burn and peel, much to my disgust.
Wouldn’t you know it – I want my porcelain skin back.
I guess the grass really is always greener …

Happy Australia Day!
It’s one of my most favourite days of the year.
This year we kicked it off with the usual 5km Fun Run down by the beach at 7am … The hill did not defeat me this year!
I stupidly told my Touch Football Coach that I would play in his team for the Knockout Tournament in the afternoon – of course I thought we’d be out in the first round. We won the Grand Final, five games later.
I don’t know how I’m going to walk tomorrow *grimace*
Happy Chinese New Year (I’m a few hours early…)!
2009 is Year of the Ox – my Chinese Zodiac! This year has been fabulous already – I really think it’s going to be my year!

It's been a very up and down week ... I'm glad it's over!

Chloe Tekla Tote - Image by Yoogi's Closet
I bought a Chloe Dark Brown Lambskin Tekla Tote a couple of days after Christmas – originally as a “camera bag” for NYC, but knowing I couldn’t wait until May, told myself that it would also be a reward for my new job (that I had been sort of ‘poached’ for) in Media. It arrived in the first week of January, and I’d been dying to wear it ever since, but as I hadn’t heard about my job, I refused to wear it, in case I jinxed myself *eye roll*
Anyhow, on account Chloe’s debut tomorrow (when I go in to meet my new team, and received a handover), I decided it was time to clean out my current work bag:

Sweet Jebus. On top of carrying my work bag each day, I also cart along my gym bag – is it any wonder my shoulder always hurts?!
People always say I carry the weight of the world on my shoulders … I certainly won’t be subjecting Chloe to that kind of abuse!
